Yes, completely. We mean it when we say life-saving information should be free, open, and accessible to everyone – especially the communities that need it most. The only thing we ask in return is this: if funding isn’t an option for you but you believe in what we’re building, help us by spreading the word.
The accuracy depends on how you submit. When you tap “Use my current location”, the platform pulls your exact GPS coordinates in that moment – which is why it’s important to allow location access and stay still while it locks on. Once you’ve done that, the platform takes care of the rest. And before any hydrant goes live on the map, a member of our team verifies it first.
Tap the hydrant on the map and select “Report an issue.” Both Resident and Just Browsing users can flag inaccurate or damaged hydrants, and a member of our team will look into it.
Yes! Head to our Contact Us page, fill in the form, and tell us the area where the hydrant is located. We’ll come out and map it for you.

Great question. Resident users can report issues and get directions to hydrants. First Responders get one extra ability – they can verify a hydrant’s condition. All verifications go through admin approval before any changes go live on the map.
We’d love the help! Fill in the Contact Us form and select “Join the Team” as your subject. Just know upfront – this is volunteer work. There’s no income or reimbursement involved, but there is a lot of purpose.
Every approved hydrant or boom gate submission earns you a point – as long as you add your name or gamer name to each submission. Because we’re still growing, we’re keeping it fun and community-driven for now. Once we see solid engagement from multiple contributors, we’re planning to add monthly vouchers for the top 3, but that depends on engagement and getting more sponsors on board.
We’ve limited submissions to 50 per hour to help manage our admin flow – which is still plenty for pinning hydrants on your daily walk.
Yes, it’s required. Photos help first responders quickly identify what a hydrant looks like and confirm that a real hydrant was submitted. One thing to note – we don’t need photos of closed-off access areas, just the hydrant itself.
Road closures and boom gates can cost first responders critical time if they hit a dead end on the way to an emergency. By mapping these restrictions, we help responders find the right entrance faster – and in an emergency, every second counts.
Every rand received and every rand spent gets documented – what it was, what it went toward, and where. We’ll publish blog posts covering updates we’ve made and new hydrant discoveries, and every donator will receive a personalised email thanking them for their contribution. Full transparency, always.
We’re always happy to support local. We have a dedicated space for small business listings – just fill in the Contact Us form and select the advertising option, and we’ll take it from there. Please note this feature is currently being set up, we’ll be in touch once it’s live.
Yes, absolutely. We only collect what’s necessary – your name, location data, and email if you choose to provide it. Your information is never sold or shared with third parties, and everything is handled in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). We also recommend not adding your surname to any hydrant or boom gate submissions, as this will appear on the leaderboard. If we do spot a surname, we’ll remove it on your behalf to keep your identity safe.
We would absolutely love to – expanding across South Africa is exactly what we’re working toward. That said, this is where donations come in. Coming out to map a new area has a real cost attached to it (petrol, time, and resources). If you’re willing to help bring a donator on board for your area, we’ll put those funds directly toward mapping it, and you’ll see exactly what the impact looks like.
